Grand Poobah is a satirical term derived from the name of the haughty, prideful character Pooh-Bah in Gilbert and Sullivan’s The Mikado (1885).[1] In this comic opera, Pooh-Bah holds numerous exalted offices, including “First Lord of the Treasury, Lord Chief Justice, Commander-in-Chief, Lord High Admiral … Archbishop … Lord Mayor” and “Lord High Everything Else”. But most important, Fred Flintstone and his friend Barney Rubble were members of the Loyal Order of Water Buffaloes Lodge No. 26. A high ranking elected position within this organization is Grand Poobah or Grand Imperial Poobah. Poobah is a title of respect and often is linked to might in a role. So, it is with great honor and self indulgent humility that this site carry on the name and revered tradition of this esteemed position.
